Mr. Nance is an experienced executive who has worked in energy sector restructuring in a variety of capacities. He works with ICF’s Houston Energy Team, examining major trends in the sector and working with clients to develop new business offerings using strategic planning and market analysis to effectively leverage their real competitive advantages.
Mr. Nance has directed over 200 consulting projects in strategic planning, commodity trading and marketing, risk management, financial strategy, mergers and acquisitions, technology and market economics, industry restructuring, marketing and trading, competitive positioning, and litigation support. He has served as a director of research and publishing analyst focused on multi-commodity strategy; in business and project development; providing third party investment opinions; market design; in market supply and demand assessment; in business and integrated resource planning; focused on institutional reform; and, in financial and economic evaluation in the natural gas, power, and refined products sectors with familiarity of the metals and agricultural sectors. He has extensive experience with conventional and renewable technologies, refined petroleum, products, as well as bio-fuels. Mr. Nance has advised on energy industry policies and restructuring efforts in the United States, Australia, the Balkan region, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Japan, western Europe, the U.K., and other countries/regions, as well as on many energy industry technology initiatives, restructurings, mergers, acquisitions, greenfield investments, in the U.S. and overseas. He has testified as an expert witness before courts and agencies. Prior to joining ICF in 2013, Mr. Nance served as Managing Director for Black & Veatch. Prior to that, he served as Executive Director for North America Power Research for J.P. Morgan. From the mid-1990’s through the mid-2000’s, he co-founded and served as President and Senior Principal of Teknecon Energy (TERA), a financial, trading/risk, and economic utility consultancy. In the early-to-mid 1990’s, he was a key contributor to The Lower Colorado River Authority’s gas and power portfolio management, co-sharing responsibility for managing fixed price risk for a $200 million portfolio. Mr. Nance has served in various leadership positions in the International Association for Energy Economics, and the United States Association for Energy Economics. He is a frequent public speaker, and has presented before industry groups such as the Edison Electric Institute, CME/NYMEX, J.P. Morgan global conferences, and others. He earned a B.S. from The University of Texas, an M.B.A. from The University of North Carolina, and an M.S. from The University of Texas.
