Ria Persad is the founding president and CEO of StatWeather, ranked as a top global climate and weather services corporation and recipient of the 2013 Best Newcomer Award by Energy Risk. StatWeather is known for its breakthrough weather and climate technology using Bayesian neural networks and artificial intelligence and widely regarded as a leader in forecasting accuracy through national and global coverage such as ForbesThe Wall Street Journal, and Risk.net.

Ria Persad studied mathematics and physics at Harvard, Princeton, and Cambridge Universities with doctoral study at Rice University. Her experience in climate modeling began at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's Supercomputer Center in 1991. Persad subsequently performed earth and solar system modeling at NASA Johnson Space Center during “Mission to Mars” and went on to model geophysical and climate systems at Bell Geospace. As a weather and climate expert at Enron and Duke Energy, she served in the commodity trading and weather risk management sectors. She has also worked on the trading floors of Lehman Brothers and was a consultant to Goldman Sachs on algorithmic trading and pattern recognition technologies. She developed state-of-the-art long-range weather prediction systems which were peer-reviewed among academia and U.S. Department of Defense scientists and rigorously tested for a top television station in the U.S. She models complex systems for the U.S. Space Program and is an innovative Subject Matter Expert. She has recently been appointed as Advisor to NOAA's Climate Business Institute at the National Climatic Data Center and sits on several other advisory boards for new technology and the advancement of science.

Persad is the author of the #1 top ranked column on Energy Central entitled “Weather for Energy” and is a frequent keynote speaker at energy and commodity conferences throughout North America. Persad's awards and recognitions include: 1st Award at the MIT Science Competition for 2 years in a row, Harvard Scholar (top 5% of Harvard's incoming class), Presidential National Science Scholar, the Highest Honor from the Society of Women Engineers, and Citations from the United States Secretary of Energy and the United States Senate on Scientific Achievement.

Ria is also a concert pianist, has been a winner of the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition and Artist of the Month, and has performed from Rome to Carnegie Hall.  Her remarkable life story was documented in Oprah Magazine in November 2011, and she is known on stage by her married name, Ria Carlo.  Ria is married to Mark Christopher Carlo, a Chief Information Officer and Chemical Engineer. Their interests include traveling and charitable service, and they are the founders of the Freedom Scholars of America Scholarship Program.
